Homemade Take 5 Candy Bars

you can’t please everybody all the time. you aren’t peanut butter.

There is very little in this world I love as much as peanut butter. When you are in a bad mood, peanut butter can fix it. When you need something sweet but don’t want to go over the top, a spoonful of peanut butter does the trick. If you have left over bread & bacon…peanut butter is the perfect marriage to make a sandwich (try it, you will thank me later).

Now that we have established that peanut butter is the best food in the world, lets talk about homemade take 5 candy bars. They are one of my mans favorite road trip snacks. They contain all his favorite things: peanuts, peanut butter, caramel, chocolate & pretzels. Whats not to love?

Instead of paying $2.00 at the gas station for 2 teeny tiny bars, I figured I would have a go at making them at home, SO EASY! With 5 simple ingredients you can have candy bars for days. You will probably have to give them away after a few days like we did because they are too addicting and we couldn’t stop eating them.

While I made smaller squares, you can make them bigger or even cut them into a long rectangle to look like the actual Take 5 Candy Bars.

These beauties can be stored in an air tight container on your counter for 3-4 days and can also be kept in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. (If the chocolate coating turns white in the fridge that is okay, it happens when the chocolate gets too cold).

I seriously couldn’t get enough of these Take 5 Candy bars, they are great for road trip snacking and just the right dessert for a get together with friends…if you don’t eat them all before you arrive at the party!

ENJOY!

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Ingredients
  • 30 pretzels, snaps
  • 1 cup peanut butter, creamy
  • 1 cup peanuts, lightly salted
  • 11 oz caramels
  • 12 oz milk chocolate morsels
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
Instructions
  1. Line small baking sheet with parchment paper & lay out pretzels so they are spread out in lines across the pan.

  2. Microwave peanut butter for 20 seconds until warm & runny. Spread peanut butter equally across pretzels.

  3. Spread peanuts over the peanut butter/pretzel combination. Let this "set" in refrigerator for 15-20 minutes. (you want it to slightly harden)

  4. Microwave caramel in 30 second intervals until melted, stir every time you take it out to make sure it doesn't burn. If caramel is too thick, add a little coconut oil or water to soften it.

  5. Spread caramel over the peanut/pretzel combination until evenly across the entire tray. Place back in fridge for 45min-1hour to harden.

  6. Once hardened, cut the bars into squares. (you can make them as big or as small as you prefer). Let set again in fridge for 10-15 minutes.

  7. Combine chocolate and coconut oil into a bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals until melted & shiny.

  8. Using a fork, dip the squares into the chocolate coating both sides. Once coated, place back onto parchment paper. Repeat until all squares are coated. Then place back in fridge for 10-20 minutes to harden the chocolate. ENJOY!
