if life gives you limes, make skinny lime margaritas.
-jimmy buffett
Okay, so maybe Jimmy didn’t say “Skinny Lime” Margaritas, but if he had tried these he may have changed his quote.
Cinco De Mayo is just around the corner & you can never have too many margarita recipes. While the Frozen Mixed Berry Margarita is always a crowd favorite, you can’t go wrong with the original either.
In order to help you drink multiple margaritas throughout the night without having to worry about your waistline, I give you the Skinny Lime Margarita. If you are a lime lover like I am, you will go wild for this cold drink!
Fun fact: I didn’t own a muddler or cocktail shaker until this week.
I know what you are & yes, you can technically get away with making great beverages without these items but my life got much easier once I did. (Tip of the day: the handle side of a wooden spoon can be used as an alternative for a muddler).
Make sure you stir the honey in for a good 30 seconds to make sure it completely dissolves, if not it will clump together at the bottom of your shaker.
Any form of tequila can be used for this recipe, I just had Patron on hand so it got used for the recipe. I have made it with Jose Cuervo & 1800 before and both tasted great!
Keeping an extra lime wedge on hand is a simple way to get your salt to stick to the rim longer. Just slide the wedge around the rim before dipping your glass in the salt & give it a few minutes to dry!
If you try the Skinny Lime Margarita for Cinco De Mayo…or just a fun week night drink let me know what you think!
Enjoy!

- 8 oz tequila, patron
- 1 tbsp honey
- 3 cups ice, separated
- 4 limes, juiced
- 1 jalapeño, diced
- salt to line rime
-
Juice 2 limes and add into cocktail shaker
-
Deseed jalapeño and dice into large chunks. Add to shaker & muddle until jalapeño has broken down.
-
Next add tequila & honey to shaker and stir until all combined. Then add in 1 cup of ice and shake to cool ingredients down.
-
Into your salt rimed glasses, divide ice equally among all.
-
Strain margarita over glasses until all are filled. Enjoy!
In order to help salt stick to rim of glass, use excess lime wedge to wet the glass rim. Next dip into salt.
For an extra spicy skinny lime margarita, add a few jalapeño slices into drink.
