Rammer Jammer, Yellow Hammer, Give ‘Em Hell Alabama!
-The University of Alabama Football Chant
Happy football season friends! I have been waiting for 234 days for this moment!
I had the privilege of going to The University of Alabama for 6 glorious years in college (undergraduate + graduate school) and loved every second of it!
While I was in college I frequented Gallettes, aka one of the most iconic bars in Tuscaloosa, more times than I can count. Gallettes is THE spot to be at on game day because of their famous Yellow Hammer drink. It is that fun kind of drink that tastes like orange juice that has a secret kick of alcohol you never saw coming. It also comes in its famous yellow Gallettes cup & if you didn’t have one on game day, did you really go to the game?
Every one of Alabama’s students tried their best to guess what was in this citrusy concoction but never came up with the right recipe and you know I love a challenge! So in honor of Alabama’s first game of the year against Florida State I tried my hand at recreating a college favorite!
Warnings & Precautions:
Let me be very clear, this delicious drink has 3 different kinds of alcohol in it, and when made correctly you will not taste ANY OF IT! Be prepared when drinking multiple yellow hammer slammers because it will sneak up on you (aka drink responsibly friends!)
How to make the perfect Yellow Hammer Slammer:
Add equal parts amaretto, vodka and rum into your cocktail shaker. Next add pineapple juice & orange juice. Shake well then pour your Yellow Hammer over ice. Garnish with orange slices & maraschino cherries before serving!
While I will unfortunately not be in Atlanta for the first game, you can bet I will be in my full Alabama gear with a Yellow Hammer Slammer in hand while watching my tide play Saturday.
Happy College Football season friends & as always, ROLL TIDE!

Awesome post Laurel! Love the pictures. I went to Alabama too and posted a yellow Hammer recipe on my blog too! Like me, I’m sure you’ll be making a big batch this weekend. Roll tide!
how funny that we posted our versions of the recipe on the same day! I guess football season does that to you. love your site, & roll tide!
Thanks for the recipe. I think Galletes throws in some Malibu Rum. So, I do 1/2 Malibu and 1/2 Bacardi Silver. Or 1/3 – 2/3.
But it is good to have this recipe at hand when on the road during football season. Thanks again, and Roll Tide!
I think you are right about the half and half! No one beats the original recipe but I had to try!!
Thank you!!! Before the sun goes down today, I will try your recipe.
By the way, good call re: undergraduate plus graduate school — otherwise many people would have been thinking of a line from the movie Tommy Boy :-). Roll Tide.
This drink is awesome!!
Great info..Thanks for the updates.
